What are the offenses relating to weights and measures?
Introduction:
The Chapter XIII of IPC deals with weight and measure offences.
Intention is an essential part of the crime under this chapter.
There are two aspects are considered for the offence .
(1) Dishonest use of some weighing device.
(2) The understanding or knowledge that it is deceptive.
Section 264:- Fraudulently use of false instrument for weighing.
Whoever fraudulently uses any instrument for weighing which he knows to be false, shall be punished.
This is Non-cognizable, Bailable & Non-compoundable offence.
Triable by Any Magistrate.
Punishment::- Imprisonment for 1 year , or fine or both.
Section 265 :- Fraudulent use of False weight or measure.
Section 266:- Being in possession of false weight or measure.
Section 267:- Making or selling False weight or measure.
The maximum penalty for these offences is imprisonment for upto one year.
Conclusion:-
